Who
is David Rogers?
That be me. Or, I be him. I
am the sole owner and driving force behind my company Red Knight Entertainment.
Everything you see from web design, graphics, art, writing, product,
books, posters, desktops, stories etc, all me, myself and I. This is
the effort of my dream job,
"Create whatever I want however and whenever I want, retain the
rights to it all and get payed for it."
So you do it all?
Almost.
1.
I design the sculpts but I do not sculpt myself. Well, miniatures anyway.
2.
Friends help me edit my books with
spelling and correcting my crazy ideas ie playtesting and further input.
(A handful of people put a good amount of time and effort into the Pilgrim
Cell Rules to make them what they are so unlike my other books I cannot
take the lions share of credit for that nor will I.)
3.
Fans contribute content to their favorite games in contests known as
Foreshadow. So once
I create a game world the fans can compete and unleash some creativity
of their own.
Other
than that it's all me.
What got you into miniatures?
Spending the night at Chris's house
as kids we decided to walk to a local game store and see what all they
had. There was a old school miniatures fantasy company that began with
R and with a P and had "al artha" in the middle. I loved the
interesting crazy miniatures they had on the shelves. I ended up picking
up some dwarven swordsmen and crossbowmen and my friend ended up getting
a big pack of human knights. That was the first time I encountered miniatures.
Years
later at the age of 15...
What got you into miniature games?
One day in 1994 I happened to walk into a comic book store with another
friend. The comic store happened to carry a medium sized selection of
RPG and miniature games. The mother of all companies that begins with
"G" and with a "W" caught my eye. Tons of sci-fi
minis fighting in wonderfully photographed table top battles. After
that I followed minis for quite a while collecting them on a regular
basis. I was amazed it was like a grown up version of playing with little
green army men as a kid except with bad ass creativity, detail and a
complete crazy world.
What got you into playing miniature games?
Never did really. Concerning playing miniature games, I played one game
from the company that got me hooked, won, and was so bored with the
game I never played another miniature game. Before I played I felt it
was going to be a certain way and I was dead on. Not because the company
sucked, but because I do not enjoy the gameplay thousands of others
do.
I
consider it to be very similar to online deathmatch game where you simply
log on, fight kill fight kill, capture the flag etc. I can endure about
a week of doing that then I am forever bored. For me it's about long
term adventure and all the little details inbetween. A versus match
every week or so just doesn't do anything for me no matter how well
set up the game is.
However
that certainly did not deter me from the miniature/gaming community.
I love the countless minis, the incredible paint jobs with miniscule
details and I loved the art and stories that accompanied them from a
variety of companies in game books. And even though I didn't play any
games I knew all the rules for the units forward and back because I
enjoyed the mechanic workings of the games and liked reading battle
reports.
Why make miniature games if yah aint gonna play em?
I am gonna play em, now that I make em. BUT, that involves making
something past the standard rules and making a rulebook dedicated to
Co-Op play and RPG
adventuring. I Always liked the idea of a RPG aka adventuring with friends,
but always hated how RPG's were played IE pen and paper, game master
and the little niggling depths to RPG's. Booooring.
So I'm combining miniatures and RPG's minus the GM (Game Master) and
the slower mechanics from RPG's to make a psuedo Adventure Miniature
Game that you can play with your friends, not against them. (Although
my games have both Co-Op and Player VS. Player features so if you feel
differently you may play what you will).
Gaming AI's like random spawning and attacking ie an artifical AI system
of sorts is nothing new and has been around since the 70/80's in miniature
games and RPG's. I'm going to work it into my games as best I can to
make Adventure Miniature Games.
